Readings at the Nick: Joe Wilkins

Joe Wilkins (associate professor of English at Linfield College) reads from his collection of poetry When We Were Birds. Published by the University of Arkansas Press, the poems in the collection describe "the bean-rusted fields and gutted factories of the Midwest," ordinary injustice and everyday sadness, the imminent birth of his son, and Wilkins's own confusions in taking up the mantle of fatherhood. When We Were Birds was a finalist for the 2016 Miller Williams Poetry Prize.
