crisscrossing Science Episode 107: Ground Control to . . . (Examining Extremophiles)

In this episode, Mike Crosser (professor of physics at Linfield University) and Chad Tillberg (professor of biology at Linfield University) discuss a recent paper in which Deinococcus radiodurans were left outside the International Space Station for three years and survived. These bacteria were known to be extremophiles, able to survive in hostile environments, but the ability to survive in spite of the UV radiation and cold of outer space is even more impressive.
