Kickin' Sand and Tellin' Lies Performance Video

This video is a recording of a performance of Linfield College Theatre’s November 2012 production of Kickin’ Sand and Tellin’ Lies by Jackson B. Miller and Christopher Forrer. The play was created as part of the Launching through the Surf project, which focuses on the historical and contemporary role of dory fishers and dories in the life of the coastal village of Pacific City, Oregon. Inspired by stories from the project interviews, the play is a fictional work. The world premiere of Kickin’ Sand and Tellin’ Lies was presented in the Marshall Theatre at Ford Hall on the Linfield College campus in McMinnville, Oregon and for one performance at the Kiawanda Community Center in Pacific City, Oregon. A single unit set was utilized to depict the numerous locales in which the play took place. Changes in areas used by the actors, furniture pieces, props, lighting, and images and videos projected on the three vertical screens were employed to suggest the locales. The play was directed by Janet Gupton with scenic and lighting designs by Tyrone Marshall, costume design by Rebecca Meridith, sound design by Laura Haspel, and technical direction by Robert Vaughn. Jennifer Layton was the stage manager. The video was recorded in the Marshall Theatre during a pickup rehearsal (without an audience) on November 7, 2012, to document the theatre production. It is not a film version of the play.
