Season's Greetings from Faculty of Applied Science Wishing you... Health Nursing student Pauline Voon educates nurses in Ethiopia on HIV/AIDS transmission, increasing the well-being of nurses, patients and children. Comfort Architecture student Jordan Beggs and Professor AnnaLisa Meyboom work with engineering students to create adaptable architecture that responds to people's needs, giving autonomy to those who would otherwise be reliant on caregivers. Energy Engineering student Naeem Mawji is working to deliver sustainable and affordable solar power to Tanzania, potentially improving the lives of 43 million people. Prosperity ReFleX Wireless—a team of UBC Engineering students—won the 2011 NYC Next Idea competition for their multi-patient, wireless monitoring solution that improves patient care and reduces wires cluttering hospitals. Harmony Applied Science researchers and students collaborate with Aboriginal partners to address some of the challenges present in Aboriginal communities. Current collaborations focus health policy and practice, clean water supply, mining and encouraging youth to pursue science and engineering.
