Volunteer Council

A discussion about how and how much influence the volunteers should have on the Wikimedia Foundation. The exact workout of this topic will depend on what the outcome of the Board meeting is/was.

The volunteer council is a subject heavily discussed in the Wikimedia Communities in the past. This discussion will facilitate a share of thoughts and ideas on where Wikimedia should be going, how much influence the volunteers should have on WMF-policies, and how the communities can be helped best in their work. Is the Volunteer Council the best way? If so, how should it look like? Which tools should it have? How can we make sure that this influence is not an empty shell? How can we force the Foundation to listen to the volunteers' opinions?

A lot of questions, and there will be even more. This discussion theme is not very strictly defined, and will mainly depend on the input of the present attendees.

This discussion is very important right now especially if the Board approves the initiated (by the submittor of this talk) resolution, as that will give the Volunteer Council the task to get with an advice. This would most certainly be helped much with a common discussion.

However, also if the resolution is not accepted, the discussion is relevant, but the topic would shift slightly to the "how much influence should the community have in WMF".
