The Javanese language Wikipedia A neglected Wikipedia?

The Javanese language is one of earth's biggest languages; it is spoken natively by about more than 75 millions people in Java and beyond. According to Stuart Robson, a well known expert in Javanese language, there are even 100 millions. In fact it is the largest Austronesian language spoken by the native speakers. Yet its presence on Wikimedia projects, especially on Wikipedia is rather minimal. This study attempts to give a possible explanation of this phenomenon.

This presentation tries to give a possible explain the fact why some large languages of the world do not have a very active Wikimedia project, especially Wikipedia. It is possible that this is linked to the status or lack of an official status of the language in question. This study is not only relevant but also desired as this will gives us more insight into this matters. Consequently measures can then be taken to promote the lesser well represented large languages on Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects accordingly.
