Should librarians cross the Wikipedian border to reach young users?

On behalf of the Regional library of Greater Stockholm, I’ve just completed a pre-study focusing on how pupils in upper secondary school use the Swedish language version of Wikipedia.

The presentation focuses on my study on how pupils regard and use the Swedish Wikipedia. The study is based on some 90 interviews with pupils in three different schools in the Stockholm area. I also come up with a few proposals on how school librarians could work to prove content quality on the Swedish Wikipedia version.

The suggestions could hopfully prove useful not only in Sweden.

Depending on the financial situation, the pre-study will or will not be succeeded by a project in the Stockholm and Uppsala regions, Sweden. The project might start in august 2008.
