Collaborative Higher Education Platform
From Devwiki
Boris Mamlyuk & Golnoosh Hakimdavar
This panel will outline recent developments in collaborative learning platforms developed on the wiki-model. Of particular interest to conference participants and the broader audience, the panelists will illustrate the application of several new models by the International University College of Turin. By incorporating the collaborative model in administration, admissions, as well as in the substantive courses, the IUC has achieved unrivaled efficiency, and has been able to expand its reach to many in the periphery of traditional university-based distance-learning models.
In a 2007 article, scholars Golnooosh Hakimdavar (University of Turin) and Boris Mamlyuk (CLEI Centre) analyzed legal and economic considerations of copyright restrictions with respect to Wikipedia and the chilling impact of traditional copyright restrictions on educational institutions. This panel builds on that article by exhibiting ways by which higher education institutions have implemented wiki-based platforms to facilitate their own research programs, as well as to enable students to engage in collaborative projects unhindered by traditional (and costly) barriers.
